What is Somatic Experiencing?

Somatic Experiencing is a body-based therapy that helps people come into a deeper relationship with their body and their emotions. At the heart of Somatic Experiencing is the belief that everyone has the capacity to increase the resilience of their nervous system. This type of therapy can be particularly helpful for those with ongoing chronic stress, anxiety or depression and for people who would like to change unwanted patterns in their lives.

What a session looks like

Sessions begin with conversation about what's present for you, and then we tune into the body to notice sensations and nervous system patterns. Working with all this information, we create a safe space to be with and gently transmute stuck patterns, emotions and symptoms. We may get up and move, doing gentle and slow exercises if your body calls for it.

Together we build resources in the body, identify unwanted self-protection responses—like fight, flight or freeze—and gently explore tools for increasing your tolerance to be with and transmute these responses.

Sessions are 1:1 and can be done in person or over a secure video call.
